After being moved to tears upon seeing a field like this on a bike ride in Virginia it was a memory held in my heart and mind to this day. I have found sunflowers symbolize loyalty, optimism, honesty,, admiration, devotion, longevity, vitality, good luck, happiness, and intelligence. They are considered very auspicious in certain circumstances. In China, they were eaten by royalty to ensure immortality. They can also represent the unwavering faith that guides the soul to the highest spiritual atonement and are compared to the solar-plexus chakra (Manipura). This chakra (and its color) governs intellect, and is a central force of perception as well as self-awareness and personal evolution.

With a round face and bright yellow petals resembling rays of sunshine, the sunflower has important cultural and spiritual significance to people around the world. In cultural mythology the spiritual significance of the sunflower as

they are symbols of nuclear disarmament. Hence, sunflower meaning also includes peace.

As they turn to face the sun, sunflowers remind people of those who seek deeper spiritual understanding and even enlightenment. Often growing in fields full of other sunflowers, they also represent community and fellow devotees to a given faith.
