I dedicate this reflection of the wheel of life to my dearest great grandmother, Myrtle O'Dell, the biggest art influence of my life. We spent some of my most precious and instructive times of my youth with her. We would spend hours huddled together in her huge chair looking at books, having long talks and she would reminisce about her formative years in the 1920s. She was a huge Fan of ukiyo-e woodblock prints, Victorian era, Art Deco and Art Nouveau art. We would look at artists like Alphonse Mucha, John Austen, Utagawa Kunisada, Maxfield Parrish, Maurits C. Escher all the time evaluating the shapes, the symmetry the dramatic, majestic reflections of life. I lost her in my early teens but her spirit has stayed with me and guides my hand and eye to this day and I hope it is always there. Love you Grandma.
